What we teach at Crowthorne Parish Nursery
Language and Literacy
We aim to encourage the children to talk, to listen attentively, to recognise print and to start developing their writing skills. They have opportunities to play imaginatively and to learn songs and rhymes, all of which contribute to the development of their language and literacy skills.
Development
The natural curiosity of the child is stimulated through a wide variety of mathematical activities and the use of appropriate language to describe their experiences. They will learn to observe similarities and differences, and to make comparisons. They also learn to count, order, sequence, make patterns and enjoy number rhymes. |
Nursery Environment
We provide an atmosphere where the children can explore, discover, investigate and communicate their knowledge and understanding of the world. They make observations of living things and are made aware of their influence on the environment. They learn to ask questions and to use Information and Communication Technology. They are also taught a range of skills - cutting, folding, joining and building - in a variety of ways and using different materials.
Expression
The opportunity to experiment and to develop creativity and imagination is encouraged through drawing, painting, imaginative play and music. The children are encouraged to use colour, texture and shape in both 2D and 3D and to appreciate their own and others' achievements. |
Further Development
Their physical development, an awareness of their own bodies, increasing control and co-ordination of movement are achieved through games and the use of large and small apparatus, both inside and outside.
Social Expression
The Nursery environment is a place where each child learns how to integrate into a new group and make new friends. They develop self-confidence, independence and self-control and they are expected to express their own opinions and to show respect for others' feelings, belongings and the environment. |
